COMMUNION OF SAINTS
Scripture Reading and Prayer —
Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God, he is known by God. We know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.” For us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist (1 Cor. 8).
The cup of blessing that we bless is a participation in the blood of Christ. The bread that we break is a participation in the body of Christ. Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons (1 Cor. 10).
